The New Graduate RN (Registered Nurse) Program at Hoag Hospital supports new-to-the profession nurses as they transition into practice. OVERVIEW

ELIGIBILITY / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

What are the qualifications for this program?

  • Current unencumbered California RN license.
  • Current BLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (Registered Nurses with an Associate degree in Nursing must enroll in a BSN program within one year of their date of hire, and have the degree conferred within 2 years of their date of enrollment).
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, NIHSS, NRP, PALS) are required in specific areas, and must be obtained before the employee’s start date. Department specific requirements are outlined in the Clinical Nurse I Role Description** for reference. **See Program Areas section below for further details**
  • Each New Graduate Nurse Resident accepted into the program will be expected to commit to one year of Full-Time employment.
  • Successful completion of the New Graduate RN Program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.

What is the application process?

  • Our open positions change daily. View our current Nursing job opportunities and apply any time.
  • Acceptance into the program is based solely on the hiring manager’s discretion and the needs of their department at that time.
  • New cohorts begin their training at the end of each month. Depending on the date-of-hire and seat availability, candidates may be rolled into a subsequent cohort.
  • Candidates wanting to join the organization sooner may wish to consider our Nursing Support Pathway as an alternative.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What can I expect from the New Graduate RN Program?

Hoag’s New Graduate RN Program framework is based on Benner’s “Novice to Expert” Model, where nurses are challenged to put knowledge into practice and take ownership of their professional role. The program is 12 months in length and utilizes an evidence based didactic teaching strategy with an emphasis on improved patient outcomes. There are specific milestones on the journey to independent practice including an evidence-based project to be presented at the nurse’s Residency Graduation.

  • Structured classroom and lab based training

  • Designated Nursing Educator: A mentor who is able to provide a customized learning journey.
